Tipu Sultan

Tipu Sultan died in the war against the British on 4 May 1799. He died in Srirangapatna, the capital of Mysore. The British East India Company betrayed Tipu Sultan and killed him. The British took the sword of Tipu Sultan to Britain. Many things are said about Tipu, but it is true that he was ahead of the times. However, there is a constant controversy these days about them.

1. The credit for making Mysore cloth special goes to Tipu – Tipu started the business of rearing silkworms in Mysore region. This thing is recorded in the Mysore Gazette. Tipu Sultan learned the art of planting mulberry trees from Bengal and started training it at 21 different centers in his state. Later, this industry became the most prominent industry in Mysore. The silk (silk) of Mysore is known throughout the country for its quality. Tipu not only prohibited the import of cotton from outside, but also took full care that every weaver would get a good amount of cotton to make clothes.

2. Tipu enlisted the help of the Chinese for sugarcane cultivation – Tipu Sultan is also believed to have contributed to the sugarcane cultivation in Mysore in large quantities. According to the Gazette, Tipu Sultan took the help of Chinese experts for its cultivation. Under whose protection good quality jaggery and sugar were produced.

3. Tipu’s state was also a dry state – Tipu fought many battles. Including four big battles fought with the British. During the battles that Tipu got a little time for peace, he also did many social reforms. One of them was prohibition.

4. India’s indigenous rocket technology- Tipu Sultan’s missile factory has now been converted into a museum. Current historians believe that Tipu and Hyder Ali had brought the initial knowledge of missile or rocket technology to India. These used to be like modern missiles and rockets today. Tipu used these rockets openly in battles against the British.
Some of these are still preserved in the Royal Artillery Museum in England. In the war, Tipu used missiles on a large scale.

5. Tipu’s Cow Connection – There is a deep connection between pets and farming. Tipu Sultan understood this, so he also contributed a lot on preparing good breeds of animals. The development of the species of cows of Hallikar and Amrit Mahal breed is considered to be the result of their steps. It is said that he used to use indigenous breed cows to offer weapons on the hills. That is, Tipu had a very special relationship with the cow in whose name the leaders are playing politics-politics across the country today.

6. Tipu had run the Make in Mysore campaign centuries before Make in India – Tipu was very fond of western science and technology. He called many gun makers, engineers, watchmakers and other technical experts from France to Mysore. He started making bronze cannon, shells and guns in Mysore, which used to be written in Made in Mysore.

7. India’s first freedom fighter – Tipu Sultan was the one who deeply sensed the danger of the rule of the British and for this he fought four wars with the British. That is why he is called the first freedom fighter of the Indian subcontinent.
Tipu sent messengers to the Ottoman and French emperors seeking help.

8. Also wrote the book- Tipu had also written a book named Khwabnama. In this, he used to write about his dreams. He used to compare these dreams with the results of his battles.

9. Use of Hindu symbols – Tipu used large quantities of sun, lion and elephant as symbols of governance. Which are generally considered to be Hindu symbols. 217 years after Tipu’s death, all historians agree on the success of his experiments. They believe that even today the socio-economic reforms of Tipu are flourishing.

10. Protection of Hindu court and Hindu temples- The chief minister of Tipu Sultan Puranaiya was a Hindu, many of the chief officers in his court were Hindus. Tipu gave patronage to many Hindu temples. The temple of Srirangnath located in Srirangapatnam is one of them. The Sringeri Mutt was also under his patronage, whose lord he called Jagadguru. However, today people interpret Tipu Sultan’s rule in many ways. Some call him the protector of Hindus and some opponents. Some even go to the extent that it is also called a massacre of staunch Muslims and Hindus.
